We want you to reach your goals and love what you do because let’s face it, we love this industry. It’s the greatest industry in the world. As beauty professionals, we get to make people look and feel great every day. As a result, people look forward to seeing us. There is so much potential for success. But getting started is the hardest part. In this series, “Business Advice from Eric Fisher,” we tap into Eric’s wealth of knowledge and share advice that will help you reach your goals. So without further ado, here’s the latest business tip.

See the Good

Have you ever been to a business where the person working there was negative, not happy and not focused? Maybe it was a waitress or a clerk at a retail store.

Did it turn you off right away? Negative people are toxic – they bring everyone else down.

People do business with people they like, so be someone who chooses to see the good in others and the world around them. Choose to have a positive attitude. Act the way you want to feel and the way you want your guests to feel.

Smile. Say “please” and “thank you.” Be early instead of late. Keep your work area spotlessly clean. Be friendly and nice. Live passionately. Don’t let negative words come out of your mouth. Don’t talk bad about anyone. If your guest comes in complaining about something, turn the conversation around or politely change the subject.

One of the greatest ways to trick your mind into being positive when you’re glum is to hold your head up, pull your shoulders back and put a smile on your face. This sends positive vibes to your brain, which makes you happier. It may sound silly, but it works!

Try hard to see the good in things and not the bad. Look at what’s right, not what’s wrong.

It may seem like a little thing, but becoming a person who sees the world in a positive light makes all the difference to your success. Of course, just having a positive attitude will not make you super successful, but it’s a giant step in the right direction. Create a positive culture and clients will knock down your doors!

THE CHALLENGE

Place 10 pennies in your left pocket at the beginning of the day. When you catch yourself saying or thinking something negative, move one penny over to your right pocket. The action of moving the penny will help you be mindful of how many times you are negative throughout the day.

If you don’t have pockets, you can also do this by placing a rubber band on your wrist and moving it to your opposite wrist every time you are negative.
