Shear Control
Proper shear control is critical to your health and longevity as a hairdresser.
Placing more than the fingertips of your thumb and ring finger into the holes of your shear forces you to use your entire hand to work the shear. Keeping the control of your shears in the fingertips allows for movement and rotation without forcing your hands and wrists into awkward postions.
Your thumb is the only finger that should move while cutting, so bring those fingers out so only the tips are in the holes. You should be controlling the shear with pressure from the thumb.
The time to change bad habits is NOW! Practice the ‘3/3’s’ every day to master proper tool control.
